“Eyes of a Mother”
War and Peace
Renne’ Siewers
Looking through the Eyes of a Mother is the maternal window protecting a child during life and death. So helpless is a child against war. The mother is responsible for her child’s protection during this duress. Depicted in the Eyes of a Mother’s portrait are the loud military explosions bursting in their ears from the nearby war; she finds a way to make her child content and safe.
The Mother cries out, “God protect my child from the ominous war.”
Mary of Nazareth fled with Joseph on a donkey to save her unborn child from certain death at the hands of the soldiers. King Herod (Herod the Great) ordered the first newborn male child under the age of two to be killed at the hands of his soldiers. King Herod heard rumors that a born king, or savior, would be extremely powerful among the Jewish people. The second reason Herod was troubled was that he didn’t want Christ to come to power while he was king, which made him fear his royal position. Mary saved her child from certain death at the hands of the soldiers. This event was called the Massacre of the Innocents.
A mother continues to protect her child in War and Peace by seeking God’s comfort and love.
Isaiah 66:13 As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you.”
Matthew 2:18: “A voice was heard in Ramah, Lamentation, weeping, and great mourning,
Rachel weeping for her children,
Refusing to be comforted,
Because they are no more.”
